Daily Devotional: Peace Beyond Understanding
In today's hectic life, we often find ourselves at a crossroads where there is only noise and anxiety all around. Sometimes the responsibilities of the house, sometimes the uncertainty of the future and sometimes the conflict going on inside our mind makes us very tired. Then we go out to remove this unrest going on inside us in some external things like comforts, helping people, visiting favorite places, etc. things that perhaps we will find peace there. But after a few moments of peace, that emptiness again takes place in our heart. King Solomon was also searching for meaning and peace in such earthly things, but in the end his answer was that without God all is vanity and as if holding on to the wind. Why is it that we do not find lasting peace because the truth is that true peace is not out there, but in a personal, living relationship with God.
Friends, have you ever felt that even when everything is falling apart, there is a strange stagnation in some corner of our heart? If so, it is the peace of God that is quietly at work within you. And this is the supernatural realization that God has specially reserved for us, so that we may not drown even in the midst of storms, but stand firm. When we speak of the peace of God that surpasses our intelligence and understanding, it does not mean that all troubles will now be gone from our lives. But it simply means that we will no longer be able to deal with those problems. Because this peace is like a guard that stands at the door of our heart and does not allow any fear or panic to enter inside. This peace in Christ Jesus gives a new direction to our thinking.
Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still and know that I am God" - this verse is not just for reading, it is for you today. When we stop and trust Him, His peace begins to work within us. When we lay all our anxieties at his feet through prayer, he in turn gives us a patience that our words cannot explain. For this peace does not tell us what will happen tomorrow, but it assures us that God will be with us in whatever happens tomorrow.
When there is unrest in our mind, our mind often gets entangled in arguments about how the circumstances will change or how the way will be found out. But know that there is a limit to our human intelligence, but there is no limit to the One who created us, and where our understanding ends, Gods power begins. Consider John 14:27, where Jesus says to his disciples, "I give you my peace. Not as the world gives, "This peace does not depend on any circumstance, but comes from his own nature. This is not a temporary settlement, but Christ's own inheritance that he has made in our name.
When we are tired of carrying our burdens, this peace acts as a medicine for our tired mind. It teaches us that we are not alone. Just as a little child feels safe in its mother's arms when we submit ourselves to Christ, so we are safe from every fear in Christ's arms. This peace guards our hearts and minds like a fortress. It not only protects us from wrong decisions but also does not allow bitterness to creep in, as Isaiah 26:3 promises, "Whose mind is stayed on you, you keep in perfect peace." This promise is just as true for us today, and it can be fulfilled right now in our lives. When our attention is fixed on God, his peace sustains us.
This peace in Christ does not allow us to be broken, but gives us new courage in every challenge. It tells us that we are more than conquerors, because the peace that is reigning within us is from the Lord of the universe Himself. This peace gives us the strength to forgive others, to endure and to be thankful in all circumstances, and because we know that our Savior lives and is victorious over all things, we can now rest assured that He cares for us.
So my dear friends, no matter what you are going through today, stop grinding your fists and put your troubles in the hands of that great God. And remember, the sailor of your life is the one who calmed the waves. His peace is greater than your understanding, higher than your difficulties and heavier than your every weakness. Pause for a moment, take a deep breath, and surrender every concern of your mind to Him. Take hold of that peace today and make it a part of your life. Make it not just a feeling, but your support. Because in Christ Jesus you're not just safe. You are held, held, and perfectly safe under the guard of His peace.
